For Francine Schloeth the concept of her "BLACK & WHITE" series in plaster and foam is the result of an expressive minimalist search. Grades of black and white that involve variations of light and shade.

Weiß ist nicht nur die Abwesenheit von Farbe,
es ist eine scheinende und verstärkende Farbe,
so wild wie Rot, so entschlossen wie Schwarz...

Viele weiße Rohstoffe wie Gips, Kalkstein, Porzellan oder Marmor hatten so seit jeher den Vorteil, dass sie das Spiel aus Licht und Schatten am vollendetsten wiedergaben.

Weiss: die unscheinbare Substanz, die das Wesen der Dinge formt und deren formale Klarheit bewundert wird........

Schwarz ist optisch gesehen die Farbe, 
die das geringste Licht reflektiert; 
aber wenn das Licht über tausend kleine Grate aufgefangen wird, 
ergibt es den Eindruck einer Farbe, 
die vom dunklen bis zum ganz hellen Grau geht. 
Die Bereiche von Grau oder Schwarz ergeben eine ganz bestimmte Qualität, 
die mich anspricht und mich fasziniert; 
ganz im Unterschied zu der traditionellen Weise, 
wenn man Farben mischt, 
es gibt da etwas Einzigartiges und Unersetzbares...

it is a seeming and strengthening colour,

so wildly as red, so decided as black...

Many white raw materials like plaster, limestone, porcelain or marble so always had the advantage that they returned the play from light and shade into a fullfilled manner

White:  the insignificant substance which forms the being of the things and formal clarity becomes apreciated

Black: both a colour and a non-colour. When light is reflected on black, it transforms and transmutes it. It opens up a mental field all of its own:
